The Australian customs and the Australian taxation Office control the issuance of licences and conditions of the operations of bonded warehouses and bonded areas within Australia.

There are several types of licences according to the types of goods, the level of risk involved, and the types of operations being conducted.

The Australian Customs and Border Protection Service issues warehouse and depot licences for goods subject to customs control and the Australian Taxation office issues warehouse licences for Excisable goods (alcohol and tobacco).
